New year, New YOU!

With the new year fast approaching we are excited to relaunch our Virtual Fun and Fitness program! Each new year it is a tradition to create New Year’s resolutions. This year, we want to help you focus on creating some SMART goals for yourself! It’s a good idea to try to create short term goals as well as long term goals for yourself and to keep track of them so you know how you are doing in reaching these goals. Tracking can be done by counting steps, writing your goals and targets down, or using an app to help.

A SMART goal is an acronym to help you make the most appropriate goal for yourself. Everyone is unique so your goals should focus on YOU and the changes you want to make. For example, you can focus on losing a set amount of weight, eating more healthy meals throughout the week, or being more physically active!

SPECIFICTarget a specific area for improvement
EXAMPLE: I will work out more/do more physical activity and improve the length of time completing the exercise.
MEASUREABLESuggest an indicator of progress – how will you keep track of it
EXAMPLE: I will count my daily steps
ATTAINABLEAlso can be called realistic – make it specific to you and something that is within your ability to complete
EXAMPLE: I will workout or be physically active for 4 days out of the week.
RELEVANTMake it specific to physical activity (or specific to your goal)
EXAMPLE: I will walk one mile outside each week.
TIME-BASEDCreate a timeline and goals of when you would like to have the goal achieved.
EXAMPLE: In one month, I will have walked four miles.

Making short term and long term goals helps us to stay motivated and on track because we can reach the short term goals on our way to the long term goal!

Short term goal example: 500 steps a day
Long term goal example: Reaching 20,000 steps by the end of a month

We’ve also added a new fun incentive with opportunities to win prizes during our live workouts on the last Thursday of each month! Each live session one lucky participant will win workout equipment that you’ve seen Marena use in her workout videos! At least five participants must be present in order to raffle off prizes, so don’t miss out! All you have to do is register for the live workout, login on the last Thursday of the month, workout with Marena and friends, and wait to see if your name is drawn!

If you are just joining this wonderful program don’t forget to check out the new and updated informational page. We recommend that you start from the beginning (Week 1) of the program as each week and month we increase our sets and repetitions, slowly building our strength and stamina throughout a whole year of workouts!
